Mechanical shock-induced nucleation in solution: Is cavitation necessary?

چکیده
Mechanical shock-induced nucleation (MSIN) of crystals from aqueous supersaturated solutions ammonium chloride is reported. A simple apparatus was constructed to expose in glass vials a single impact, while images were recorded using fast camera. strong correlation between cavitation the liquid and solid revealed. The measured fraction nucleated as function impact height fitted Poisson model. mean number solution samples increased quadratically with above threshold height. Analysis showed that accelerations achieved sufficient induce based on proposed by Pan et al. [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 114 (2017) 8470]. use hydrophobic coating internal surface shown significantly increase both cavities observed probability MSIN crystals. results presented suggest salt mediated cavitation.

Supersaturation dependence of glycine polymorphism using laser-induced nucleation, sonocrystallization and nucleation by mechanical shock.
The nucleation of glycine from aqueous supersaturated solution has been studied using non-photochemical laser-induced nucleation (NPLIN), ultrasound (sonocrystallization), and mechanical shock of sample vials. It was found that at higher supersaturation, samples were more susceptible to nucleation and produced more of the γ-glycine polymorph. The results are described in terms of a mechanism co...
متن کاملShock wave measurements in cloud cavitation
One of the most destructive (and noisy) forms of cavitation is that referred to as “cloud cavitation” because it involves a large collection of bubbles which behave as a coherent whole. The present paper presents the results of an experimental study of the processes of collapse of a cavitation bubble cloud, specifically that generated by an oscillating hydrofoil in a water tunnel. Measurements ...
متن کاملNumerical Solution for Gate Induced Vibration Due to Under Flow Cavitation
Among the many force s to which hydraulic structures are exposed to, the forces induced by cavitation incident are of typical hydrodynamic unknown forces. The aim of this study is to define these forces as coupled fluid-structure interaction under two dynamic effects. The first dynamic effect which incorporates facilities for dealing with cavitation fluid is based on the appearance and bursting...
